Integrated, inclusive, smart, resource efficient city management

Várpalota, with a population of nearly 20,000, functions as a district center, providing services for 8 settlements and a total population of 37,000. Its relationship with the functional urban center is also decisive from an economic, research and development point of view. The city in the XX. century was one of Hungary's major mining and heavy industry centers. However, its strength weakened after the regime change, no remarkable new businesses took place of the previous economic branches, except the defence industry. Our municipality is committed to provide efficient, needs-based services using digital technologies, offering an attractive, safe living space to the population and organizations operating in the city. We intend to further develop our city management system to enable multidirectional flow of information by involving the population. The installation of a camera system supported by AI is in progress, which will help traffic planning, improvement of public safety, and management of public transport. In order to create an inclusive digital society, we are open to integrate data-driven systems for better decision-making and development of public services. In addition, modernization of the energy network, reduction of energy dependence, development of district heating, implementation of alternative fuel production and waste processing are also important in our integrated urban development strategy. The municipality implemented the building energy improvements recently, in combination with renewable energy production systems. Among our goals is testing of digital solutions that enable the collection and presentation of environmental and traffic data. We would be happy to try proven or well-prepared European practice in a broad partnership. Our cooperating partners are civic, economic, academic organizations, as well as expert companies necessary for digital development.
