Challenge description

Our town is facing a mobility and connectivity challenge: two key industrial zones are currently only accessible by car, lacking safe and sustainable connections to the urban core. While vehicular access is efficient, we aim to promote greener, safer, and more inclusive alternatives—such as walking, cycling, and e-scooters—through nature-based solutions and green infrastructure, that also supports the heavy rainfall this area is located in.

However, we are uncertain about the scale of investment required, the most effective design approaches, and how to phase the implementation. We are seeking expert opinions, funding opportunities, and practical guidance—such as toolkits or case studies from other cities that have successfully tackled similar challenges.

Our goal is to transform these industrial areas into accessible, eco-friendly hubs that support sustainable commuting and improve the overall urban-industrial integration.

This city is looking for

We are seeking to connect with peer cities that have successfully implemented sustainable mobility solutions to bridge industrial zones with urban areas. We are especially interested in learning from cities that have navigated similar scale and budget limitations, and can offer actionable insights, proven strategies, and replicable models to guide our own efforts.
Specifically, we would benefit from expertise in:
- Urban mobility planning: Experience designing and executing pedestrian, cycling, and micromobility infrastructure that connects peripheral industrial areas with city centers.
- Nature-based solutions: Knowledge of integrating green corridors, ecological buffers, and biodiversity-friendly design into mobility infrastructure.
- Funding and financing models: Guidance on accessing EU or national funds, public-private partnerships, and cost-effective approaches to infrastructure investment.
- Impact measurement: Tools and methodologies for evaluating the social, environmental, and economic benefits of improved connectivity.
