GUARDIAN Expert Journal 1: Get to know the project and what happened in the first 6 months!
In her 1st Journal, Elsa Pastor, UIA expert of the GUARDIAN project, discusses all key activities that you need to know about GUARDIAN, what the project is about and how it approaches its innovative solution to adapt to a changing climate and its impacts. She shares her insights on the pioneering model of sustainable and innovative management of the natural environment, which will ensure the safety of the citizens of Riba-Roja and contribute to the preservation of the Natural Park of Túria and La Vallesa.

Most importantly, Elsa shares her thoughts on the project’s combined strategy based on the use of recycled water for fire mitigation and protection, providing preventive irrigation and extinction water spraying patterns automatically programmed. She guides through all technical details of the hydraulic infrastructure implementation that will supply recycled water from the Waste Water Treatment Plant and the irrigation and sprinkler towers set up that will make up the defensive barrier of the area against wildfires.
The journal also discusses the key implementation challenges that lie ahead in Riba-Roja, highlighting those of leadership, partcipative approach for co-implementation and the administrative procedures on permits and tendering. Read through to find out how the city will cope with them!
