SOFTacademy proposes improving the outdoor spaces, as well as the actual interface between the buildings and outdoor spaces, using the Soft City approach. The goal is to create more attractive spaces that encourage people to spend more time together outside, with the outdoor space functioning as an extension of their living areas.

Text

The quality of public space in socialist urban areas stands as both a testament to bold ambitions and a cautionary tale. At their best, these environments expand access to light, green, and community life, nurturing a sense of belonging and security. At their worst, they risk devolving into sterile or neglected landscapes, undermining the very ideals they were meant to serve.

Ola Gustafsson (architect and partner at Think Softer) and  Priit Ingver (landscape architect and partner at VERTE) explain their journey to create cosier, greener and more beautiful outdoor spaces in the Mustamäe neighbourhood in Tallinn.
