First Zoom in Cooling Havens: Water-Powered Neighbourhood Cooling and Engagement Stations
The first Zoom-in prepared by the Innovation Action expert of Cooling Havens EUI project, Eleni Feleki, offers an in-depth look at the nature-based solutions selected for six intervention areas across Athens.
Its main objective is to capture lessons from practice and communicate the knowledge generated through the project’s implementation.
Designed for an informed audience - urban practitioners, engineers, architects and planners - it seeks to deepen understanding of how Athens integrates blue-green infrastructure into its climate resilience strategy, while also inspiring decision-makers at city and regional level.
This first edition provides:
• a data-driven overview of the challenges that motivated the project
• an introduction to the suite of nature-based solutions serving as cooling and engagement stations
• and an outline of the expected outcomes and innovations.
It analyses each solution’s components, exploring both the “why” (the rationale) and the “how” (the implementation approach).
