Challenge description
Veliko Tarnovo, as the historical and spiritual capital of Bulgaria, combines a rich cultural heritage with a dynamic contemporary identity. The city has significant experience in preserving cultural and historical monuments and in developing cultural tourism.
Historical buildings are not only architectural treasures – they are cultural assets that embody the identity and heritage of cities. However, their preservation requires addressing significant challenges, especially in the context of sustainable development.
The preservation of historical buildings is also closely linked to sustainable tourism. By maintaining and revitalizing their cultural heritage, cities can attract visitors in ways that both highlight their cultural value and minimize negative environmental impacts.
