Challenge description

The town of Mikulov, a historic settlement of 7,500 inhabitants, faces challenges related to the integration and support of seniors, who often lack deeper family ties in the region due to displacement after World War II, as a result of demographic changes and an aging population. We seek to implement solutions that provide sustainable, affordable and safe housing for seniors using assistive technologies. We see these technologies as tools that can make everyday life easier for seniors, increase their independence, and support their active participation in the community. At the same time, we look for ways to promote intergenerational coexistence as a means to strengthen
social cohesion and mutual support between generations. We believe that a combination of inclusive community approaches and effective use of modern technology can make a significant contribution to improving the quality of life for our seniors and the community as a whole. We plan to engage key partners, including smaller regional municipalities that can transfer lessons learned to rural areas and smaller communities, and the South Moravian Agency for Public Innovation (JINAG), which specializes in innovation in public administration and can support the subsequent replication of successful solutions throughout the South Moravian region.

Key challenges:
1. Ensuring sustainable and affordable housing for the elderly through assistive technologies - following current trends in social housing and taking into account the need to improve the quality of life of the elderly, we are looking for innovative approaches combining modern technologies with community support.
2. Promoting intergenerational inclusion through shared housing - in line with the principles of intergenerational solidarity, we aim to create housing models that facilitate interaction between seniors and younger generations, thereby strengthening mutual understanding and social cohesion.

This city is looking for

- Innovative social services for the elderly - including the implementation of assistive technologies, the development of community centres and effective methods of fieldwork.
- Intergenerational housing and inclusion - implementation of successful projects promoting intergenerational coexistence and cooperation within communities.
- Multisectoral cooperation - effective partnerships between the public, non-profit and private sectors in the provision of social services and the development of housing policy.
- Evaluation of social policies - methodologies for assessing the impact of social interventions on the quality of life of the elderly and their level of social inclusion.
- Effective management of the municipal housing stock - strategies for renting, maintenance and investment in housing infrastructure with an emphasis on the needs of the elderly.
- Sustainable real estate development policies - application of energy efficiency measures, renovation of buildings and financing of sustainable projects in the context of social housing.
- Innovative tools for housing policy planning - the use of digital platforms, GIS systems and participatory planning in the design and implementation of housing strategies.
