Challenge description
Social and economic segregation exists in many cities, leading to divisions between different population groups. Culture is often seen as a powerful tool for bringing people from different backgrounds together, but in urban development, this potential is not yet sufficiently exploited. By using culture as a bridge between diverse communities, an inclusive city that embraces its cultural diversity can be realized.
This city is looking for
We are looking for cities that promote social inclusion and reduce segregation in an urban environment through culture as a unifying tool. We aim to exchange- and learn from practices on combining urban development with cultural initiatives that encourage interaction among diverse social groups, with the ultimate goal of creating an inclusive and cohesive urban community.
Project examples:
1. To promote social cohesion and integration through cultural initiatives in different parts of the city.
2. Reducing segregation by creating meeting places and cultural exchanges for residents from different social and ethnic groups.
3. Developing innovative urban development concepts that integrate culture as a central element in the physical space.
4. Strengthening the cultural identity of diverse communities and increasing the participation of marginalized groups in urban processes.
5. Encouraging sustainable interaction between residents, artists, civil society organizations and local government.
