Data collection and analysis methodology

The survey included 18 multiple-choice, rating, ranking and open-ended questions, divided into four main sections:

1) information on the respondent;
2) priorities and needs for sustainable urban development;
3) urban dimension of EU initiatives;
4) the European Urban Initiative and its service offer.

The following chapters present the survey results at an aggregated level. Closed-ended questions were cross-analysed against variables such as level of development of the region of respondents, and city size when respondents represented urban authorities. The results of these cross-analyses were only included in the report when significant. In some cases, closed-ended questions were supplemented with the option for respondents to add comments in free text. A qualitative analysis of these comments enriched the key findings with additional insights and examples.
