Functional Areas in the EU
A local guide for Foreign Direct Investment's (FDI) based on the Romanian guide for attracting private investments and the Romanian market experience
Background
- National investment promotion agencies : The majority of EU member states are represented at national level by dedicated Investment Promotion Agencies (IPA), which are involved in multiple functions for attracting local investments or FDI, facilitating trade promotion or supporting SME's
- NUTS 2 representations : Most regional subnational authorities are also engaged into FDI-attracting activities, although their teams are also focused on different areas, such as the implementation of regional programs.
- Local level : Although there are some noteworthy exceptions, most Tier 1 & Tier 2 functional areas are not actively involved in attracting FDIs through dedicated teams and formal structures.
