FED aimed to be a key component in creating fossil free cities, and supported the Energy transition challenge to drastically decrease the use of fossil energy and increase security of supply. FED aspired to be a full-scale demonstration at Chalmers campus in Gothenburg, shaving energy peaks, operating fossil free, and creating a new energy market, all the while being sustainable from an investment and social perspective. The proposed innovative solution is a connected and integrated local energy system and market for not only electricity but also heating and cooling. It has to push the state-of-the-art on several scales to end up being successful:

- Locally: system integration handling demand and supply, business modelling, energy trading and user acceptance.

- Globally: energy regulations, stakeholder as well as financial instruments.

FED is expected to serve as a demonstrator and lab for future energy research and innovation.

During its implementation, the UIA project has capitalised on its experience so that it can be shared with peers. The outputs displayed on this page are the result of this process.
