MOBILITY AND TRANSPORT

Challenge

The main problem is to ensure easy accessibility in the Jiu Valley, an intramontane depression with long distances between urban centers of a conurbation planning system. In addition to the actual accessibility component, the “green” project component is particularly important, with long-term sustainability being crucial in choosing a preferred mode of transportation.

Solution

“Green Line Jiu Valley”, with components 1 and 2, projects that provide for the creation of a green line of electric buses between Petrila, Petrosani, Aninoasa, Vulcan, Lupeni and Uricani. Regio financing – the Regional Operational Program (Regio-POR) 2014-2020, with a total value of 95 million lei, ie over 20 million euros, offers a modern and ecological transit in the Jiu Valley.

Through the two projects, 26 electric buses will be purchased, a depot will be set up in Vulcan, 112 public transport stations will be built or modernised, 34 recharging stations for electric buses and 2 recharging stations for cars will be built. electric. At the same time, approximately 5 kilometres of road will be rehabilitated. In 20 of the transport stations there will be vending machines for issuing travel cards / tickets, and 42 stations will be equipped with passenger information systems. The four routes total 128 kilometres round trip, as follows: Route 1 (38.5 km) – the main route, which makes the complete connection between Uricani – Lupeni – Vulcan – Petrosani – Petrila; Route 2 (10.6 km) – secondary route, which connects Aninoasa and Petrosani; Route 3 (3.7 km) – secondary route, which connects Petrila (mine area) and Jiet; Route 4 (11.15 km) – secondary route, ensures the connection in the localities that belong to Uricani, respectively Valea de Brazi – Cheile Butii.

The projects also include the implementation of an e-ticketing system, the placement of passenger information and counting systems in vehicles, the monitoring and dispatching of buses, their video surveillance, the creation of a web portal and a mobile application (Android, IOS). for informing travellers.

The investment is the result of the partnership between Municipalities of Vulcan, Petrosani, Aninoasa, Lupeni, Uricani, Petrila and Hunedoara County Council. The goal is to ensure a modern, clean, high-quality, attractive and efficient public passenger transport on the four routes included in the projects, the final objective being to reduce carbon emissions in the localities of the Jiu Valley.
