The online web-platform (https://otwartedane.gdynia.pl/) is mobile friendly, includes functions to adapt it’s content to people with disabilities, and offers open data on the following categories: Transport Security Education Administration Solid waste Water and sanitation services Health Environment Construction Reference values Energy Economy Population Unemployment Economic operators Finance Maritime economy Hostels Telecommunications and innovation Culture Spatial planning The data is collected from the following data suppliers: Gdynia City Hall, Road and Greenery Authority, Strategy Department, Laboratory of Social Innovation, Municipal Social Welfare Centre, Municipal Police, Faculty of Education, Public Transport Authority, Faculty of Environment, Gdynia Health Centre, Independent Department of Energy, Non-governmental Gdynia, City Gardners Department, Independent Department for Quality of Life, Investments Department, Department of Culture, Department of Project Development, Department of Social Affairs, Management of Municipal Buildings and Premises. Moreover, the platform offers citizens and independent data collectors the opportunity to upload their data and contribute to the development of the platform. An API is used to encourage companies or citizens to create software applications that can connect to the data portal and use the open data. Data can be visualised on the web or downloaded in 4 different formats by citizens or public officials in order to better understand the city’s dynamics and better plan development solutions. In 2021, the European Commission launched a pilot project to improve functional area approaches in the EU and has partnered with the World Bank to implement this initiative. As part of the project, the project team collaborated with 12 functional areas from seven EU countries, providing them with tailored technical support and assistance: Zagreb Urban Agglomeration (Croatia), Brno Metropolitan Area (Czech Republic), West Athens (Greece), Lake Balaton Area (Hungary), Kalisz-Ostrów Agglomeration, Kraków Metropolitan Area (Poland), Jiu Valley and Jiu Conurbation Functional Area, Caraș-Timiș Functional Area, Cluj Metropolitan Area, Oradea Metropolitan Area, West Ialomița Functional Area (Romania), and Trenčín Functional Area (Slovakia).
